Happiness – Ways to rise above adversity

Kym McNicholas – Alignment – Ways to rise above adversity- Stay in control of the right things.

I think step one in terms of getting everything you want out of life, whether it’s a career, whether it’s your family, whether it’s a relationship, whether it’s friends is to become aligned with who you are and it’s easier said than done but we have choices in life, we can choose to worry, we can choose to be scared, we can choose to be stressed, we can choose to be unhappy or we can choose to be happy. And when I think you make that conscious choice to be happy that is what is going to lead you to that alignment.

Making the choice every single moment of your life to what feels good because if you focus on what feels good it takes, you’re not worried about this, you’re not stressed about that you don’t fear this, this doesn’t make you sad it’s really going to attract more of that happiness into your life, you don’t need to know who that perfect man is going to be, you don’t need to know who that perfect woman is going to be, you don’t need to know whose going to be your best friend, you don’t need to know what the perfect job is for you or where you’re going to be ten years from now.

It’s fun to think about, it’s fun to create an action plan but if you’re like me I don’t know where I’m going to be. I used to create plans and plans and plans and say I want to be this when I grow up or trained when we’re younger to say, what do you want to be when you grow up, when you’re four years old: I want to be a doctor, I want to be a fireman, I want to work at Chipotle like, at different stages of your life, what you’re most passionate about, it’s going to change but for some reason it’s ok when we’re a kid and those things change from day to day, one day you want to be a chef the next day you want to be a fireman the next day you want to be a broadcaster the next time you want to be a doctor in sports medicine the next time you want to be a lawyer but for some reason when you get to be in college or later, it becomes not ok to have these different dreams or different goals day to day.

But what if a dream today makes you happy but a dream tomorrow is different and it makes you happy tomorrow, that’s ok, because as long as you focus on what feels good and what feels right for you, you’re going to feel aligned and that’s going to bring you happiness, don’t look at society and how they define happiness and success and saying if you start at a young age and you want to be a doctor and age seventy five you retire as a doctor, that’s society’s definition of success no, don’t look at that.

Be aligned with who you are and what makes you happy and create your own definition of success and your definition of success, I’m going to tell you this, needs to be defined as this is what feels good for me.
